Dementia Right

Developing a rights-based approach to Dementia

An Erasmus+ funded project (2020-I-PT01-KA204-078657).

See our RIGHTS. Person first, dementia second: that’s the rule. We all have our own likes and dislikes, our own lifestory. This tells us more about who we are than a diagnosis ever will. Whether you are a friend, family member, caregiver or medical professional, caring for someone living with dementia is not just about meeting their physical needs. You must get to know the person, connect emotionally with them and treat them with kindness and empathy. DEMENTIA RIGHT aims to empower people with dementia, those who support them and the community as a whole, to ensure their Fundamental Rights are recognised, protected and promoted. Charter of Rights

Know our RIGHTS. People living with dementia, their carers and family members have the same Human Rights as every other citizen. However, in addition to the impact of the disease, they often face cultural, social, and economic barriers to fulfilling these Rights. Seeing and Knowing their RIGHTS are the first steps toward having those rights respected, promoted and guaranteed.

Getting it RIGHT

Promote our RIGHTS. This guidance is a call for change towards a better understanding of the need for a human rights-based approach (HRBA) for people living with dementia. The HRBA ensures that the Human Rights of people using health and social care services are protected, promoted and supported by carers and services. Download the guidance below and be the spark that starts the change in your organisation. See their RIGHTS; Know their RIGHTS; Promote their RIGHTS.
